Be sure to Come On Out this weekend, April 21 & 22, for our Earth Day Celebration. We will be giving a free Black Hills Spruce seedling with each purchase, while supplies last. On Saturday, we will have crafts and activities for the kids from 10 - 2. Bring a white t-shirt, or buy one from us, and paint it in honor of Earth & Arbor Day. We will have a limited number of children’s t-shirt sizes available for a nominal cost. Our own Deb Stevens will be leading it all, and we look forward to seeing you there. Wear old clothes, and prepare to have fun!
We have another busy weekend planned for the next weekend, April 28-29th, with our ongoing Plant-a-Container Workshops, ABF Annual Herb Fest, and a Rose Care Class scheduled. Both days we will be serving samples of herbal breads and herbal enhanced dipping oils. Free recipes and incentive pricing on herbs will be available all weekend.
Our Plant-a-Container Workshop will be from 10-4 on both Saturday and Sunday, April 28 and 29. Our creative staff will offer assistance to help you plant the perfect containers for your deck, patio and yard. We will even throw in free soil! If you have friends or family who have attended our container workshops in the past, they will tell you it is one of their favorite events at ABF. Come on out and prepare to have a ball! We guarantee you will not only enjoy it, but you will be back for our next one! We can show you how, with one lovely pot of your choice, you can change it from spring, to summer, to fall and then into a holiday porch pot for the Christmas holidays. All of a sudden, you will see why it is imperative to use that perfect pot which exactly pleases your senses and enhances your decor.
Sunday afternoon, at 1PM join us for an informative talk on roses. Sharon Stickford and Joan Schultz, who have both been Madison Rose Society presidents, will not only discuss roses, but answer your questions. Last year people told us they saved so much money (and time and effort) by listening to their advice and keeping their plants healthy and properly maintained.
For a complete list of upcoming events, please check our website.
I’d like to help you out, which way did you come in? Maxine
We have been telling you for weeks to be careful about digging in too wet of soil. The warmer temperatures forecast over the next few days, along with a light breeze, should do a great deal to dry out the excess moisture. If you are not sure if your beds are ready to dig in, firmly squeeze a handful of soil. If you get a nicely formed solid ball of soil, it is still too wet. Try the test again in a day or two. When you get a handful of soil that forms loose, moist clumps which crumble with pressure, you’re ready to start digging. Reminder that if you are digging a hole to plant a tree, call Diggers Hotline first.
During the day or two you are waiting, take a trip to Americas Best Flowers to see what new and delightful plants await you. We have received several shipments of great looking trees and shrubs this week. Our staff will be happy to help you pick out the perfect one for your yard.

It's that time of year. Time for the ABF Second Annual Salsa Saturday. This year it will be held on CINCO DE MAYO (May 5th). Since it perfectly coincides with our Tomato Festival, you will receive a FREE tomato plant. Our own Ed Knapton will be giving a Quick Class at 10am on tomato culture. Learn about growing your own tomatoes and avoiding some of the pitfalls. Live in an apartment or condo, or just don't want the work of a garden? Grow tomatoes in a pot on your deck or porch. Let us help you plant a salsa container, filled with tomato plant, peppers, basil, oregano, and cilantro.
Enter our Salsa Recipe Contest and win a $50 gift card to ABF. Email your favorite, or drop it off. Please mark your entry Attention Bonnie. All recipes must be submitted no later than April 30th. Our staff will judge the finalist recipes, and we will notify the winner on May 4th. Many of the submitted recipes, including the winner, will be available to our customers on Salsa Saturday, May 5. We will be serving salsa and tortilla chips that day from 10-2, and you can shop to some spicy Latin music. Last year we had a ball.
I have tons of wonderful salsa recipes, and this is a good and easy one for all veggie-lovers. I like to have it with unsalted blue tortilla chips.

We went to the movie the other night. I sat in an aisle seat, as I usually do, because it feels a little roomier. Just as the feature was about to start, a beautiful blonde from the center of the row got up and started working her way out.
Excuse me, sorry, oops, excuse me, pardon me, gotta hurry, oops, excuse me.
By the time she got to me, my patience had grown a little thin, so I asked her,
Couldn’t you have done this a little earlier?
No, she answered in a loud whisper, The Turn Off Your Cell Phone Please message just flashed up on the screen and mine is out in the car.
the Holy Spirit Guide You! God Bless
