FALL CONTAINER WORKSHOP THIS SATURDAY!!
Saturday, September 15 from 10 until 4, Sharon Stickford will be available to help you create a one-of-a-kind container for your entry or patio. If creativity is not your strong suit, don’t worry. Sharon’s will more than make up for it. During these workshops, we provide free soil, assistance and a place to work. Then we clean up the mess. Everyone who attends has a wonderful time and is genuinely pleased with their end product. If your entry or patio needs a seasonal face lift, bring out your favorite container, or treat yourself to a new one from our selection, and plant away. You’ll be glad you did.
I’ve reached the age when happy hour is naptime.
Next spring your garden will burst with early color if you use your ABF Dollar$ to buy bulbs from our great selection this fall. Spring flowering bulbs are one of the most underused plants in today’s landscapes. By spending a little time in the fall, you get a fabulous show in the spring. With careful selection you can extend the spring bulb season from March to June. Be sure to plant enough bulbs to provide fresh bouquets for your table and office. Nothing says spring like a vase of home-grown daffodils or tulips.

I had this at a friend’s house. It is soooo good, and can be found on the Food TV website, from the Barefoot Contessa program, and in fact, you can watch it being made on September 28th at 4PM when it will again be televised. I had it served with pound cake and strawberries, and some excellent coffee.
CHOCOLATE ORANGE FONDUE
7 ounces good semisweet chocolate
1/3 c heavy cream
1 ½ t grated orange zest
½ t instant coffee granules
2 T orange flavored liqueur (recommended: Grand Marnier)
For serving: pound cake, doughnuts, long-stemmed strawberries, bananas and pretzels
Chop the chocolate and place it in a heat-proof bowl set over a pan of simmering water. Add the cream, zest, coffee, and liqueur and stir constantly until the chocolate is melted and smooth. Transfer the mixture to a fondue pot and serve warm with pound cake, doughnuts, strawberries, bananas or pretzels.
As an instructional assistant for a public school, part of my job involves teaching small groups of children. One day I was in charge of some second-graders, who were concentrating on their artwork. As I reached across to help a student, he remarked that something smelled good.
I was pleased that he noticed my perfume, until he held a wide felt-tip pen up to his nose and said, “Yep. New markers.”
