Mother’s Day at America’s Best Flowers

Friday, May 6 – Sunday, May 8
FREE Geranium for Mom

Don’t miss Mother’s Day weekend at America’s Best Flowers.  It has become quite a tradition for so many of you to bring the whole family and let Mom and Grandma choose their favorite hanging baskets and planters.  We especially enjoy these weekends because we get to see so many of you.  Just a reminder, easiest shopping hours are early and late.  Our weekend hours are 9 to 6.  We look forward to seeing you.

I have read there is nothing in the world like a mother’s hug.
I say the best is a hug freely given by her grown child.

Make your own Planted Containers for Mother's Day

Deciding what to get your mom, or other special woman, for Mother’s Day doesn’t have to be hard.  We invite you to come out and plant a gift.  Start with a beautiful pair of ceramic containers on a matching tray in your choice of yellow, lime green, tangerine, or blue.  Fill them with herbs, or pansies for a delightful gift.  Only 29.99.  And we’ll clean up the mess.  Please register by calling 222-2269.

There is an instinct in a woman to love most her own child –
and an instinct to make any child who needs her love, her own.

Rhubarb Stalks Today’s recipe is from a dear friend. She served it last Friday night at our ‘first of the year’ neighborhood barbeque. Even though the air was chilly, the fact that rhubarb was served for dinner, rhubarb she picked from her own yard, proved beyond any doubt that spring is here. This dessert is also known as Rhubarb Meringue Cake. Once you’ve tried it, I’m sure it will become a favorite. If you don’t have a patch of rhubarb in your yard, stop out today and let us correct the situation. You will definitely be glad you did.

Rhubarb Torte

    Crust
    • 2 c flour
    • ¼ t salt
    • 2 egg yolks, save whites
    • 2 T sugar
    • 1 c butter (softened)
    Filling
    • 4 c rhubarb
    • 4 egg yolks, save whites
    • 2 cups sugar
    • 4 T flour
    Directions

Crust: Mix above ingredients and press into 9 x 13 pan bottom and sides.  Bake at 350 for 10 – 15 minutes until slightly brown.

Filling: Mix well and put in crust.  Bake at 350 for 30 minutes

Beat 6 egg whites until stiff.  Add 1 c sugar and ½ t cinnamon.  Spread on baked rhubarb and brown for 20-30 min or until meringue is browned.

Cool and cut into squares.  May be served with ice cream.
