Dear Friends,
This past summer, Carol and I were blessed with the opportunity to attend the Perennial Plant Association meeting in Raleigh, North Carolina. One of the places we toured was Homewood Garden Center. They had an excellent display of house plants which boasted several health benefits. As a result of what we learned, we have doubled the size of the house plant area in our own greenhouse.
For example: there are some very nasty chemicals being given off by rugs, carpeting, tile floors, paint, and even the printing on paper. Formaldehyde, toluene, xylene, ammonia, and benzene are a few of the everyday substances we are exposed to in our homes and offices.
House plants, like the spider plant above, remove 87% of the toxins from the air every 24 hours. Just thought you might like to know!
We hope to get the chance to see you in person at the Garden Expo this weekend (Friday, February 8th thru Sunday, February 10th) at the Alliant Energy Center.
Signing off until next week,
Ed

Chocolate Covered Strawberries
The best part of this week’s recipe is that even if it doesn’t turn out perfect, the mistakes will be very tasty!
Ingredients:
  • 1 lbs strawberries
  • 3.5 oz 70% dark chocolate
  • 3.5 oz white chocolate

Instructions:
  • Wash strawberries leaving on the green parts, then pat dry with a paper towel to make sure they are very, very dry.
  • Reserve a little bit of both chocolates and chop into small bits on a chopping board. Melt rest of chocolate in a double boiler or microwave.
  • Take the strawberries by the green part between your fingers and dip the strawberries into the melted chocolate. Then place on a lined baking sheet and sprinkle with chopped chocolate.
  • Put in the fridge to harden for at least 1 hour, better several hours or overnight.
