As I write this,we are getting another round of snow and expecting the coldest days of the year, with 19 below zero and not even getting above zero on Wednesday!
Our first major shipment of small plants came in last week and we are starting to plant them today. Some plants take more time to get ready for sale which is why the planting is spread out over a four month season. The first baskets of the season will get planted this week. The greenhouse is 65 degrees. Stop in for a visit!
Just a reminder, if you are going to give flowers for Valentine’s Day, you should be thinking about ordering soon.
It is only about twelve days until the Garden Expo at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, February 8-10th. We have twelve booths! Stop by and say “Hi”.
I am looking forward to Spring, as I know it is coming. Signing off until next week,

Cajun Corn Chowder
Nothing warms you up like a hot bowl of chowder on a frigid winter’s day except maybe a steaming bowl of Cajun Corn Chowder. I found this yummy recipe on a blog called “Gimme Some Oven” and have made it about 6 times so far. Every time it turns out amazing!
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium white onion, peeled and diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, cored and diced
  • 2 ribs celery, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
  • 6 cups vegetable stock
  • 1 1/2 pounds Yukon gold potatoes, diced into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 1 (14-ounce) bag frozen corn
  • 1 cup whole red lentils*, rinsed and picked over
  • 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning (or more/less to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
