Change is often difficult, but it is an inevitable part of life. I believe that things happen for a reason and like it or not, sometimes you just have to adapt and accept that’s how it is in life. How one manages change can often define them, for good or for bad.

For three years now, I have been on a quest to own my own business. In fact, it’s the reason I came to America’s Best Flowers. Rowena, our Marketing Director, and I are sisters and she came to America’s Best with the idea that I would eventually one day own this business.

Unfortunately, Ed, Carol and I were not able to work out an agreement for that to happen. With a heavy heart, Rowena and I announce that we are leaving America’s Best Flowers. This was a difficult decision for us, but ultimately I had to continue to pursue my dream of owning my own business or I would always wonder about what could have been. I am happy to say that next week, I will achieve that dream, as we close on the purchase of a nursery/greenhouse business in southern Wisconsin.

We have made many friends here, including all of YOU. The staff of America’s Best are some of the finest people I have ever had the pleasure of working with and I’ve worked with a lot of people! They have become our family.

To our customers, many of you whom we have come to think of as friends, we will greatly miss you! America’s Best Flowers is very fortunate to have such a loyal following and the most wonderful customers a business could ask for. Thank you to every one of you for making Rowena and I a part of your gardening adventures.

Christopher Reeve once said, ” At first dreams seem impossible, then improbable, then inevitable.” I can say this three year journey has been all of that. Thank you so much for making the last two and a half years some of the greatest of my life.

A brief word from Rowena…

Two and a half years ago, I began my adventure here at America’s Best Flowers as Marketing Director. During that time, I have met so many wonderful people online and in person. As the voice behind our online presence, I thank all of you who have followed along on this journey and for helping our online community grow.

The various events we have held here, at America’s Best, are also ones that brought me great joy. They have been tremendously successful because of awesome people like you. THANK YOU! to all of you, our amazing customers, who have attended and supported all of our special events, workshops and classes. Without you they wouldn’t be possible.

I would also like to say THANK YOU! to all of the amazing staff here, at America’s Best Flowers, who work tirelessly throughout the year and especially during special events at the greenhouse. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Every one of you truly has a place in my heart and I will miss every single one of you.

This farewell letter is bitter sweet for me as I will be leaving a terrific community of friends and acquaintances, but at the same time, I am excited to move forward and embark on this new venture along side my sister, Betty.

“You and I will meet again, When we’re least expecting it, One day in some far off place, I will recognize your face, I won’t say goodbye my friend, For you and I will meet again.” -Tom Petty

I wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a Phenomenal New Year!

~ Row

Succulent-Shark Tooth
For all of you succulent collectors, here’s one you need to add to your collection! Crassula ‘Shark’s Tooth’ is a unique plant and a must-have for any succulent enthusiast. Its unusual architectural form and distinct colors make it stand out from all the others.

Shark’s Tooth is related to the Jade plant and has thick, fleshy leaves. Its leaves are stacked on top of each other, the newer rosette of leaves growing on top of the older. Leaves are green, with edges of pink, orange or red. The leaves turn
brighter colors in full sun.

Care of Shark’s Tooth is like other succulents. They prefer bright, indirect light. Overwatering is sure to kill them, so only water when the soil has thoroughly dried. Take care to avoid getting water in the rosette, as the standing water can cause rotting and disease issues. Fertilize during the summer and only at one-half strength. We recommend Miracle Gro Succulent Plant Food or Bonide Cactus Plant Food, which can also be used for succulents.

Plants can be placed outdoors in the summertime. Because of their trailing nature, they can be grown in a hanging basket. They are both deer and rabbit resistant and if you are lucky enough to get beautiful white flowers, they are attractive to bees.

Shark’s Tooth is a fun plant, with its stacked triangular foliage and myriad of leaf colors. It’s easy to grow and will reward you with years of growth without a lot of fuss.
