Lady’s Story – Chapter 40

I'm trying to be patient, I really am, but this growing and posing business has impacted my early morning ball-playing time.  I'm not having any fun doing this modeling gig, but it's for my mom and well, I'd do anything for her so I fake a smile and carry on!The other day, I was sitting and posing next to the ever growing monster of a plant when something strange happened. My mom stopped and looked at the pictures, looked at me and then back at the pictures.  Hmmm, what's that about, I wondered.'Lady, how about if we take a break and play ball for a while?''Huh?  You talking to me? You betcha!'After running, catching and chasing the ball for a while (Just for clarification, my mom throws the ball and I do everything else!) we sat down and had what my mom calls a heart-to-heart.'Lady, you've been so sweet posing for the pictures, but something tells me you're not having fun doing this.'I didn't know what to say, so I just looked at her and waited.  Maybe, just maybe she was going to tell me that I didn't have to pose anymore?!'How about we change things up a bit and every time we do the  growing and posing thing we play ball FIRST?'It's not exactly what I was hoping for but, hey, compromise is a good thing, right?'You got yourself a deal, Mom!'

Dianthus have been a favorite of gardeners for generations.  This old-fashioned flower with its ruffly bloomsand fragrant, spicy scent are low-maintenance treasures. It's important for a successful garden to know the needs of your plants. Dianthus prefer bright sunlight and well-drained, dry soil.  They can be planted in partial shade as long as they get at least 6 hours of sun.Use as a border plant or combine dianthus with other old-fashioned flowers, like roses or verbena.  The brilliant red, pink, white or purple colors of dianthus will add that extra punch of color to your container garden as well.

Plants and potting soil go hand in hand, don't they? At America's Best Flowers we plant, water, and care for our plant family until it is time for them to go to a new home. We'd like them to continue to thrive and mature with as little turmoil as possible in the transition period from our house to yours.  That is why we recommend using our Custom Mix potting soil.  This potting soil is what they have been raised on and what they are accustomed to.  Use it when planting container gardens, hanging baskets, window boxes and even mix it into your garden beds.Your new plants will soon feel at home.  And we all know there is no place like home!

Let’s Recycle Together

America's Best Flowers is proud to partner with Metro Market on a reuse/recycle program. In our ongoing efforts to lessen our carbon footprint, we, as an organization, support the most authentic way to recycle, which is to reuse existing products such as cardboard and plastic containers. With this new effort, Metro Market supplies us with cardboard trays they would otherwise recycle, and we reuse them to package up the garden plants and supplies you purchase here at America's Best Flowers. Reusing products not only saves money, but also saves energy, prevents pollution, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. We invite you to join us in our endeavor. On your next visit, please return the cardboard boxes and flats your purchases went home in. We also welcome paper grocery bags. This is a great way to live green, and more importantly, it's the right thing to do.
