This time of year, most gardeners start winding up their outdoor activities. A lot of the annuals and perennials are starting to fade away as the temperatures start to dip more and more under the freezing mark. Even the trees and shrubs are starting to slowly drift off to dormancy. It?s enough to make us hardcore gardeners cry!
Before holing yourself up for the onset of winter, consider the wonderful opportunity this new season offers. There are a host of exciting decorating options for your outdoors that can easily and quickly be used for a fun and exciting fall display. For example, instead of colorful annuals, set up three or four straw bales with some bright orange pumpkins on them. That will hide those drab areas where the flowers were and make a smashing display?..maybe I shouldn?t say smashing in the same sentence as pumpkins but you get the idea.
Corn shocks also make a fun and easy autumn display. Tie them around a lamp post, porch post, or lean them up against the house. Accessorize with a few pumpkins, some gourds, maybe some Indian corn and you have an awesome fall display that will last until Thanksgiving! Of course you can easily add some scary stuff for the fun Halloween season.
Another fun outdoor display is the good ol? scarecrow. This makes for some wonderful one-on-one time with the kids! Simply grab an old pair of jeans, a long sleeve shirt, some boots and gloves, and one of the kids? old soccer or volleyballs. Have the kids help stuff all the clothes, gloves, and boots with straw and assemble. Use fabric to cover the ball and draw, paint, or sew on a face. Top off with a hat and prop him (or her) out in the yard or on the porch.
We still have lots mums and, pansies as well as closeout specials on all of our perennials. If you come out, bring the kids and have them go through our HAY MAZE.. Its indoors so weather isn?t a problem. Our fall hours are weekdays 9-6 and weekends 9-5.
